Buttons are how a build turns a touch, a push block, or a prompt into a change. The rules changed on 9 October 2026, so a tutorial recorded before that date can show properties that no longer exist as separate switches.
What a button can activate
From 9 October 2026, a button can activate any part, including lava, jump, speed, and teleport. The developer was explicit about the exception: buttons cannot activate other buttons.
That is the current wiring rule. If a contraption needs one button to press another, it has to be redesigned around a part the first button is allowed to activate.
Activate Type replaced two switches
The same update merged Player Activated and Push Block Activated into one Activate Type property. The developer said the behavior is the same and the control is simpler.
If you are following an older door or save tutorial:
- Do not look for two separate activation booleans.
- Set Activate Type to the player, the push block, or the combination the part still offers.
- On 10 October 2026 a bug that showed Activate Type incorrectly was fixed. If the label looks wrong, reselect the part after that client is current.
Morph Parts specifically failed to activate from push blocks until the 10 October fix. Retest any morph that a push block is supposed to fire.
Prompts
A Prompt effect, added 21 August 2024, puts an interaction on a part. When a player triggers the prompt, it activates the connected part. A prompt can activate a button or start a fading part. Prompts are the readable alternative when a bare button is hard to see.
Ranges last stated on 25 June 2024
These part ranges were expanded that day and were not given new numbers in the 2026 log:
| Property | Last stated range |
|---|---|
| Lava / healing amount | 0.01 to 1,000 |
| Jump part jump power | as low as 10 |
| Music part volume | as high as 1.5 |
| Falling part delay and time | as high as 10 |
| Falling part speed | as low as 0.01 |
| Timed visible / hidden time | as low as 0.1 |
| Fading hidden time | as low as 0.1 |
| Moving and spin time | as low as 0.1 |
Global walk speed can go as low as 0. That is a global property, not the same control as a Speed part a button activates.
Spin parts gained Spin Angle, Spin Delay, and Reverse on 21 December 2024. Those fields hide while Simple Properties is on. From 18 March 2025, spin time can be negative so a spinner can run backwards. Values from -0.1 to 0.1 are treated as 0.1.
A reliable first contraption
- Place the part that should change (a door panel, a fade platform, a teleport).
- Place a button where the player is supposed to interact.
- Connect the button to that part, not to a second button.
- Set Activate Type for a player touch or a push block.
- Turn Simple Properties off if the field you need is missing.
- Leave edit mode and test once as a runner and, if you use push blocks, once with the block.
There is a selection control on a button's object list, added 25 June 2024, that selects every part the button is connected to. Use it to audit a busy circuit.
